CHACARILLA COPPER MINE, BOLIVIA

High Grade copper in the heart of Bolivia’s sedimentary copper belt

The Chacarilla Copper Mine is located approximately 177km south of La Paz, Bolivia, under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Chacarilla Villarroel Province, La Paz Department, at an elevation of about 3,900m amsl.

The Chacarilla Copper Mine is held under two contractual mining interests with a total area of approximately 25 km2, and two contractual mining interest applications totaling 27.5 km2. The Mine comprises an existing underground mining operation as well as surface infrastructures, including a processing plant with a 500 tons per day capacity, and a new 1,500 tons per day plant under construction

An NI43-101 Technical Report was prepared in October 2024 and includes the following mineral resource estimate. The report was prepared by Dr Bing Zhou and Dr Siwei He of Jiawei Technologies (Canada)

Category Tonnage (t) Cu grade (%) Cu contained (t)
Indicated 4,514,100 2.99% 134,900
Inferred 1,369,100 2.68% 36,700

Geological Setting

The Chacarilla Copper Project lies within a classic red-bed, sandstone-hosted copper system, exhibiting strong stratigraphic and structural controls. It is situated at the northern end of the Andean Cordillera structural belt in the West Cordillera Sandstone Copper Deposit Belt—also known as the Corocoro-type copper belt—which hosts several major deposits, including Carapi, Faja, and Corocoro.

Located just 50 km from Chacarilla, the historic Corocoro Mine (Bolivia’s largest copper producer until 1985) reported over 7.8 Mt of copper at 7.1% Cu, underscoring the region’s strong mineral potential. Chacarilla shares the same geological setting, with prospects for near-surface high-grade zones and deeper, structurally controlled mineralization along copper-bearing sandstone units.

The ore body is hosted in a NW-SE overturned anticline, with copper horizons dipping southwest. Within the current mining scope, it extends ~2.8 km and remains open in multiple directions—especially along the northeastern limb. Mineralization spans several prospects, collectively covering over 5 km along the regional trend.

Mining and Infrastructure

The Chacarilla Copper Mine includes a developed underground mining operation with a current processing capacity of 500 tonnes per day (TPD). It is supported by established surface infrastructure, including maintenance facilities, power supply, a water dam, haulage roads, and administrative buildings. To enable a significant expansion of operations, a new 1,500 TPD processing plant is currently under construction. The project is held under two contractual mining interests covering approximately 25 km², along with two additional mining interest applications totaling 27.5 km².
